☆ ABOUT ☆
Alex Longmore is a ceramicist based in West London who has been creating large scale sculptural forms and tableware for over 8 years.
Each work is unique, being hand-crafted from a single piece of stoneware or porcelain clay, moulded, individually sculpted & then hand-glazed, drawn or painted. This creates bold yet elegant work, where form and finish work together to complement each other.
Alex’s work has a very personal appeal, with her inspiration coming from nature, extensive travel and the everlasting circle of life itself. Favouring sculptural form & decorative finish, these features reflects at first hand the physical interaction she experiences as each shape develops… And then the magical alchemy as the glazes further transform it during the firing process.
Paint-on glazes, lustre and Venetian glass also lend the work a direct and luminous quality, communicating her bold vision instantly to the spectator, and thus creating a visceral - as well as considered - reaction.
Alex Longmore’s unique artistic style results in memorable pieces that inject colour and elegance into both neutral and vibrant interiors alike.
Alex says “I love all the pieces I make, each one is unique and there is so much dedication and nurturing that goes into the process. I never know or pre-plan how the work is going to turn out. It’s magic, it just happens and I think really it’s got very little to do with me. It’s a synergy between the soul and the clay. I’m just along for the ride.”
